Horton Halloween

Well this Halloween we decided to stay home and pass out candy to the kiddies... so I put on my "Spooky" shirt and Ben put on his notorious Napoleon Dynamite costume and we carved our pumpkin and passed out candy to the few kids that came by.

We thought we would go Political this year and cast our opinion upon the neighborhood so we carved our pumpkin to reflect our thoughts. :-)

We gave Kenya the legal name (as in, her long registered pure breed puppy name) of Warrior Princess Kenya Horton... therefore I came home to a warrior...

But no worries, because I bought her a princess costume for $1.50 that ended up being too small for her... but I insisted that she wear for a few pictures and couple tricker treaters before I left her yank it off!

And it's not complete without a picture of each of us in our "costumes" with the dog and our lovely pumpkin!

William's Run

Today I signed up for a 10k that I will run on Saturday! I was originally just going to run the 5k portion, but in convincing a friend to run with me, we both ended up deciding to do the 10k. She said she was too slow for a 5k so I suggested do the 10k... on Saturday at about 9:30am we'll see if this was the wrong decision. Ha! The run is to raise money for the Brain Tumor Foundation, so even more of a reason to want to get out there. I will say that I do enjoy supporting each of the causes that these races are held for!

I'm continuing my effort to get/stay in shape by running and doing these races keeps me motivated during the week to run.

So motivated in fact, that I convinced Ben that he wanted to run with me last night! He went a 1.5 miles before stopping, then informed me that we were walking back! Pretty good start for someone who hasn't run in a long time. :-) It was also nice to get out and get Kenya running with us.

So as Saturday approaches please pray that I make it through the 10k and can continue to stay encouraged to do them, especially as the weather gets colder! :-)

Apple Orchard

This weekend we were lucky enough to have Ben's little sister, Gabi, stay with us... so we thought what better thing to do than to go to an Apple Orchard! I've heard about them and wanted to experience it myself so we thought it'd be a lot of fun to take Gabi... so we did!

We also took some friends of ours, the Pina's. We all had a great time getting to know each other and being in the beautiful weather God provided for us this weekend!
Our first stop was the Smith House for lunch... the mix of Southern food and family style dining makes for a yummy meal! These pictures are outside of the historic restaurant.

After lunch to the Apple Orchard we went. This picture it taken right inside the store they have... soon we were surrounded by many apples!
You could cheat and buy already picked apples, but we picked our own!
This is the entrance to the orchard. It was a hilly orchard, but it came with great view or the surrounding town!
Each row of trees had a sign with the type of apples you could pick... so of course the Rome Beauty was our favorite.
Yummy apples!

Gabi picked all of our apples.
Of course there was a petting zoo...
And in the end we got to shop in the store for all things apple. I got my apple butter, we ate fried apple pies and drank cold apple cider! Yum! Now it's time to make yummy dishes with all our apples. :-)

Grandma came to town!

We had a really good time. We discovered new stores, ate lots of yummy food, and went sight seeing like we'd both never seen the city. Grandma's trip also coinsided with the gas shortage in Georgia, so a good part of her trip was spent wondering when we'd ever get gas. But I promised her that we'd go to the Aquarium, so I got up on Monday morning at 5am and scouted out gas!!

This is at the entrance of the Aquarium. Grandma loves to have her picture taken. :-)

The picture on the top is of the jelly fish... the Aquarium did a great job of putting them in a tank where people an really see how they work. The picture on the bottom is a seahorse who looks like the plants around him. Very neat!

And here's what the Aquarium is famous for... 1. the whale sharks and 2. the biggest viewing window.

We also went to see the coke museum across the lawn, but managed to only come out with pictures from the taste testing room.

While my grandma took a break and hung out at a little cafe, I walked across the street to Centennial Olympic Park to look for my name! In the 1996 Olympics you could purchase a brick with your name on it and they put them down in the park. I had only seen it once, 12 years ago, so I thought it was time to find it again. I found out where to find the brick and off I went. Come to find out it was at the total opposite end of the park than where I started from. :-/

And that concludes our visit to the city. :-)

My rediculous sleeping habits

It's taken me a while to post this, only because I've been busy. But I'm very amused with my sleeping habits... and to say the least, my husband is not. :-)

We happened to be talking, last Saturday, about how I'm a rediculous sleeper and I move all over the bed at night and like to push Ben to the edge of the bed. I love to deny it, only because I'm not there to witness this. So the story goes...

Saturday night I woke up in the night becuase I felt something on my head... so in my groggy state I opened my eyes and realized it was Ben's arm. I came to my senses and realized exactly where I was...

My head was on his chest (which is weird in and of itself) and I was completely perpendicular with him. I've drawn a stick figure drawing just so you can understand how rediculous I am. I think the whole story makes more sense and is even funnier because of this drawing.

Perhaps this is only funny because I'm sick and hyped up on medicines... Hope you can find it just as funny as I do!

the beginning of something new

5Ks!! So my friend Chelsea decided she wanted to get fit and offered of the option to some friends to run some 5ks with her... which I've been wanting to do, but never took the first step in doing so. So this past Saturday was our first race... and it went pretty well.

I've been running atleast 4 mornings a week with my neighbor and I've felt a lot better about myself for doing so, but running this race this past weekend kind of gave a reason to want to run harder during the week and strive to run farther and do more 5ks. So I'm hoping that this is the beginning of something new...

More shirts and good memories! :-)

Here's a picture of us after the race...

a quick stop

Ok! I know I haven't posted much as all recently, but it's because I'm rather busy with many other things such as starting my own business sewing anything and everything, playing with our every growing dog, spending time with my awesome husband, and of course keeping up on the 2008 election!

To get political for just 2 seconds I have to say that Palin is the best thing McCain could have done for himself! At first I was like, dang it McCain you went and picked a woman (thinking she was like Hillary, ek)... but after her speech the other night... I'm inspired! :-) Go Palin way to stick up for all the women out there and be such an inspiration!

Soon to come... I'll let you in on my business... when I can find time between sewing and being a wife! :-)

Intelligent Puppy

Today I decided we have a ridiculously intelligent puppy. And by this, I mean that she knows how to get around the rules. As I will explain...

Kenya knows that she is not allowed on the carpet (ie. our bedroom, dining room and upstairs). So when she wants to be with us when we're in our room she is allowed in the bathroom where her crate and bed are. So today as I'm getting ready I look over and see Kenya drag her bed out of her crate and pull it over to the threshold between the bathroom and our bedroom. She puts the bed on the carpet, like full out ON the carpet... and then proceeds to lay down.

This dog is not dumb... because she's technically NOT on the carpet... her bed is. As much as I want to punish her and tell her no... I can't, cause she's not wrong. :-)

Do not be anxious

As I did my quiet time this morning I came across a great scripture that definitely needed to inserted into my life today.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7

It reminded me that I need to pray and remember that I don't exist in this world without God. He's the reason I'm here and I have to remember that my next move is only going to be because that's what HE wanted me to do. I know that many of us struggle everyday with giving our trials and tribulations to God, but we have to remember that he's going to be the only one who can answer our doubts and concerns and he'll be the first one there to celebrate when times are good. Today I'll remember to pray more and give more of my "troubles" to God...

Cardboard Testimonies

I was touched by this video and felt that I should share it. We aren't all perfect...

down the Ocoee we went...

... and it was a blast. The rapids were fun to go through and our guide was probably one of the best out there. He got us as wet as possible and we had fun doing it! Here's a picture to show you of us in action!

Rafting down the Ocoee

As of tomorrow, July 12th, Ben and I will have been married for 6 months... and to "celebrate" we're going White Water Rafting down the Ocoee River.

To be honest its a coincidence that we are doing it, but I'd like to say we planned it from the beginning. I'm pretty excited because I've never been white water rafting and I've always wanted to do it.

We should feel lucky everyday that we are able to just pick up and go out of town or be spontaneous like this, because as life progresses you begin to have more obligations that hold you back.

So today I'm thankful for being young at heart, mind, soul, and body (even though sometimes I feel like my body wants to kick me).

Kenya at the Farm

Oh how Kenya loves going to the farm. I've posted a few photos of her from this past weekend. She loves running around outside.

This is Kenya after her bath... she loves to be clean.

Peachtree Road Race

On a lighter note...

Ben and I are running the Peachtree Road Race on July 4th.

I have wanted to do this for the longest time and I'm super excited to get to do this with my husband... even if he finishes in half the time that I do. :-)

I'll get my shirt and have it checked off my list. Perhaps I'll like it so much that it will become a tradition. :-) I'm sure Ben will love that!

He has done everything, but prepare for this race. I on the other hand... have run 4 times in the last 2 weeks. Haha. But amazingly I ran much further than I knew I had in me and it wasn't half bad.

So at 7:30 on Friday morning when everyone is enjoying their Holiday off from work... we will be just beginning out 6.2 mile trek up Peachtree Road.

Please pray we make it! :-)

A moment to digress

I've been in a state of not understanding where I stand in this world... I'm still there, but I'm beginning to see a little more clear. After talking with an amazingly Godly woman I realized a lot about myself that I thought I knew, but apparently don't.

I need a direction to go. Right now I'm stuck in a holding pattern, I'm not progressing in my personal life. Nothing of what I say pertains to my husband whatsoever, we are doing amazing. It all pertains to how I do life.

This woman showed me that I need to realize what my spiritual gifts are. We sat and talked about it and I honestly couldn't really come up with what they are. I'm a person who has to be told what I'm good at... so she has a test and I'm going to take it. Very soon I hope... because I need to feel a sense of need in this world.

I know God has me here for something Big... I married Ben because the two of us together can accomplish something HUGE together. We don't know what it is yet, but God is preparing us. Even when it's unbelieveably hard to sit and wait.

For me to figure out what my spiritual gifts are, it will help me to define more for myself what God has me here for. Do you know what you're on this earth for? Because I do know that I'm not here for me... and it's a hard lesson to learn (I'm learning about it everyday... even today).

I think God has given me this moment to digress and regroup. To figure out what it is I am really here to do. How am I going to make the biggest impact on this world? How will I help others grow right alongside me?

Today I learned (again) that it's not all about me. It's about everyone else and what I can do for them.

Please help me remember this!

Because we are so proud of our new addition, Kenya ... I thought I'd post the latest picture of our family! :-)

We had just finished our softball game... which we won!

Welcome!

As I set this blog up... I think to myself how much I would love to post often and the fun things I could post about...

But the reality is I won't have all the time in the world to keep up with my blog, but I sure do plan on trying! I'd love to keep you all up to date on my perspective of life, love, marriage, daily living and anything that happens upon me.

Welcome! and I hope you see you again soon! :-D

Kindest regards....
